It’s Alive!…Moravian’s “Electrocuted”
Single Review ★ Emily Galeas ★ @emilygaleaswrites
“Hallo-week” is coming in hot this year, and Detroit-based alt-rock band Moravian is absolutely “electrified”. Following a highly successful summer season full of bold live shows, including a single release show for their track ‘Sirens’, followed by a music video for the track to add to their arsenal, nobody is doing “Spooky Season” quite like them.
Moravian has recently announced their third EP titled ‘Don’t Play Dead’, releasing (fittingly) on October 30th. The EP will feature several tracks showcasing the group's new direction, leaning more into world-building, mythology, and a darker, richer sound. One of the featured tracks on the EP is an alt-rock ballad of sorts entitled ‘Electrocuted’.
‘Electrocuted’ showcases Moravians' skills for strong lyrical construction, heavily backed by lead singer Alex Christ’s vocals. This is one of Moravians' longer tracks, sitting at a runtime of 4 minutes and 21 seconds. This track tells a relatable story of wanting to feel alive, wanting to feel intense, complex emotions, and love. One of the most soul-catching lyrics within the chorus is: ‘I want a reason to live, I wanna face the music, I wanna know how it feels to be electrocuted’. Moravian is no stranger to complex lyricism, adding an element that we don’t see as much from indie artists living in major music cities.

Moravian's tracks sit with their audience, which is why they have been able to hone such a devoted and unified fanbase. The vulnerability and relatability of their lyrics, and the sensitive topics that they are willing to touch on, create a sense of connection with their audience. ‘Electrocuted’ is a perfect track to release during the fall season, when many people begin to struggle to find emotional fulfillment, saying goodbye to warm weather. Featuring a beautifully constructed guitar bridge, ‘Electrocuted’ feels like lying on the sidewalk in the rain.
This track evokes emotion; the musicality behind the lyrics feels vulnerable. Moravian also has a knack for writing some of the strongest bridges I have come across when it comes to local indie bands. Whether the track is meant to bring the crowd together to jump and dance, or sway and shed a tear or two, Moravian never misses when it comes to a strong bridge. ‘Electrocuted’ is no different, featuring a variety of wailing guitars that seem to make time slow down; without dragging along and creating a disconnect, every note draws you in.
‘Electrocuted’ adds to the group’s current sonic shift, moving into a more mature, developed, dark and earthy tone that draws you in and keeps you guessing. This track is a perfect introduction to Moravians upcoming EP ‘Don’t Play Dead’, and you can be the first to hear it by tuning in to WDET on October 27th for the track's premiere. Make sure to check out the rest of Moravians third EP ‘Don’t Play Dead’ on October 30th to kick off your “Hallo-weekend”.
