Erin LeCount: Live in Sydney

Erin LeCount, a 23 year old British singer-songwriter/producer, played her first show in Sydney on the 7th of August and I had the exciting opportunity to attend. I absolutely love seeing an artist’s first Australian shows and this was no exception! Erin graced the Oxford Art Factory with her self-produced confessional alt-pop songs to a sold out crowd of ~400 people. Sydney was the last city on the Pareidolia EP Tour, with one show on both the 7th and 8th of August. From walking into the venue, the dedication from her fans was clear in their curated outfits involving lots of white and lace which quickly established a very loyal atmosphere.
No opener didn't seem to have an effect on this already excited crowd with the energy lifting as soon as Low by Flo Rida came on, with the increase in volume signaling it was the last song before Erin. The anticipation kept building right until the opening lines of “I BELIEVE” began and a spotlight revealed Erin center stage.
Throughout the night there was lots of audience interaction including one of my favourite things I’ve ever seen an artist do, record an audio sample of the crowd singing one note. In one take! I will be looking out for that project in the future. It was a lovely crowd who made Erin feel so welcomed with a fan project of holding up little stars for her to read during the song “Heaven”. At one point she even made her way to the middle of the packed crowd to sing “ALICE” surrounded by fans. Despite not being able to see much during this moment (I was at the back) there was a clear energy shift in the venue as everyone tried to get a glimpse of what was happening.
This show felt so intimate despite being in a room of a few hundred people. This was credit to Erin’s highly captivating stage presence and incredible live vocals. I will always be in awe of people who can articulate their feelings so authentically in writing. Erin read out a pre-written speech showing her appreciation for her fans who had made her EP tour so special, especially in Australia as she was so far from home. To my delight she also explained the meaning of “Pareidolia”- loosely described as to see meaning in things that don't typically have any meaning i.e a face in a cloud.
If you are a fan of the singer-songwriter pop artists I highly recommend making your way to an Erin LeCount show! I can’t wait to see her back on bigger stages in the near future.
